Lion's Dens
The room was officially opened on Halloween 2008 as a real "treat" to the children of Panama City. Pat LaFontaine joined Fraser and several elite Ironmen triathletes as they welcomed the first patients into the room. Several existing Lion's Den rooms welcomed their new friends during a live WebEx video conference session during the opening ceremony.
Madeline Bell, EVP and COO of the hospital and Michele Lloyd, SVP of Family Services welcomed Brent, Kelly and Caroline Asplundh to the special Lion's Den room they donated to the children of CHOP. Hospital patients immediately began utilizing the room's four XBox 360 stations, three PC's with a printer and large flat panel TV.
Pat LaFontaine welcomed NHL Executive Vice President of Marketing Brian Jennings; NHL Vice President of Community and Diversity Programming Kenneth Martin, Jr.; Actor, Writer and Producer of “Rescue Me” Denis Leary; Vice President of the Bruins Cam Neely; former NHL star Steve Webb and Executive Director of the Cam Neely Foundation Scott Neely to the opening. Patients immediately poured in to the den and began playing video games and logging on to the computers.
The room is built almost exclusively of DuPont’s Corian® and features 4 XBox 360s, 5 PCs, a large screen TV and a semi-private video conference pod. The club’s owner, Wayne Weaver; coach, Jack Del Rio and players Marcedes Lewis, Tony Pashos and Greg Jones participated in the opening ceremony.
In conjunction with their 2009 All Star Game the National Hockey League, the NHL Players Association and Montreal Canadiens decided to leave a legacy gift to the children of Montreal. The inaugural Lion’s Den Room in Canada opened at the Sainte-Justine University Children’s Hospital on Friday, January 23rd.
The room is the first to be built almost exclusively of DuPont’s Corian® and features 2 XBox 360s, 2 PCs and a large screen TV unit. Titcomb’s parents joined Kevin Lawlor, president of the hospital, Gillies and LaFontaine for the ribbon-cutting on June 9, 2008.
Several local sponsors including Carly's Club and the Buffalo Sabres contributed to the new room and representatives were on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony on November 13, 2007.

Microsoft provided the software and computer hardware, Cisco Systems donated the room’s infrastructure technology and Full Armor provided the web-protection software.

The Sabres hosted a celebrity hockey game sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts to help raise the money for the room. More than 13,000 fans attended a game that featured Michael J. Fox, Denis Leary and Olympic heroes Jim Craig and Mike Eruzione.

The room is located in a space that overlooks the hospital’s magnificent indoor Wintergarden plaza in which concerts, performances, and special events are regularly held for patients, families and visitors. This theatre can serve as a broadcast center for all other Lion’s Den rooms on the network.
The inaugural 'NHL Legacy Classroom' Lion's Den opened at North Carolina Children's Hospital in Chapel Hill on January 28, 2011, in conjunction with the 2011 NHL All Star Game.
An 'NHL Legacy Classroom' Lion's Den opened at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in August 2011. The room was built in conjunction with the 2011 NHL Winter Classic.
The second Lion's Den based in a Canadian hospital was opened at Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary in October 2011. The room was built in conjunction with the 2011 NHL Heritage Classic. The first Lion's Den based in a Canadian hospital opened in 2009 at CHU Sainte Justine in Montreal.
In conjunction with the 2012 NHL All Star Game in Ottawa, the CiC Foundation opened a Lion's Den Room at Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. The group also provided a mobile XBox Kiosk and large screen TV to Roger's House, an 8-bed hospice center that adjoins the hospital. Presenting sponsors included the NHL Foundation, the Ottawa Senators Foundation and Cisco Systems.
